On July 6, 1967 - January 15, 1970, the Nigerian Civil War, also known as the Biafran War, was fought to counter the succession of Biafra from Nigeria. The problem started when Nigeria tried to adopt a federal system which caused the ethnic minorities to resent the group dominating each state. Nationalism was the greatest underlying cause of this war. But the origin of the war is believed to be the oil supply.
